LIBERAL Party members who breach a new party ethics code could be automatically suspended or expelled, under reforms to be announced today.

The party will also set up a "future fund" where a percentage of fund-raising will be put aside for some years in a bid to boost the party's flagging coffers. The full list of reforms, some of which the Herald foreshadowed yesterday, is to be announced at a state council meeting of the party. The changes are meant to be about stopping the decades-long conflict between the conservatives and moderates in the party.

Under the other changes, the Opposition Leader, Barry O'Farrell, will take charge of a new all-powerful group within the party, known as the Agenda 2011 committee, to sort out any problems concerning misbehaviour or preselections.
